Remedies against aphids: prevention and intervention

Of remedies against aphids, commonly lice, there are several. Depending on the severity of the infestation, you can use one or the other, preferring natural remedies whenever possible. And without forgetting that the best remedy that exists is always good prevention.

Remedies against aphids: preventive measures

Strong and resistant plants are less prone to aphid attacks. A balanced fertilization helps because aphids attack heavily fertilized plants and puny ones that are poorly fed more. The soil must also be well ventilated and kept moist. For this purpose the best tool is mulching.

To strengthen the natural defenses of plants it is useful from time to time to sprinkle the leaves with rock dust or preparations based on algae. In the event of a sudden appearance of aphids identified promptly, the 12-hour nettle macerate to be sprayed on the leaves may be sufficient. The plants quickly absorb the macerate and regain the strength to fight parasites independently.

Remedies against aphids: interventions

If the lice are few and the appearance is recent, you can remove them manually or spray the plant with cold water. Otherwise, vegetable macerates (nettle, fern, tansy and absinthe), herbal infusions (tropeolus, rhubarb) and ecological preparations derived from the neem tree. If these remedies are not enough, but then it means that the attack is heavy, you can resort to natural pyrethrum-based preparations. However, these should be used in moderation because in addition to aphids they also kill useful organisms, for example ladybugs which are a predator of aphids.
