Vegetarian and vegan certification: how to get it


There vegetarian certification and vegan certification they are extremely effective tools available to food producers who meet specific quality criteria.

Having these brands on your food products favors immediate recognition by the final consumer who follows a vegetarian or vegan diet, multiplying the probability of purchase.

So let's see what are the brands of vegetarian certification is vegan certification available, what are the criteria for obtaining them and who to contact to initiate the application process.

Vegetariana® Quality Mark (QV)

The QV mark is assigned through CSQA, independent certification body which guarantees the products according to the specifications of the Italian Vegetarian Association.

This brand, in addition to being sought after by all people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, is also sought by all people who suffer from particular health problems, such as food allergies, lactose intolerance and high cholesterol and by people who want avoid certain foods for religious reasons (eg Muslims and Hindus).

The presence of the QV mark avoids customers having to read the details of all the ingredients printed in usually extremely small characters on the back of the packs, inducing them to make an immediate and prolonged purchase over time.

The presence of the Vegetariana® Quality Mark (QV) it also increases the strength of the corporate brand because it indicates sustainable and cruelty-free commercial choices.

The Vegetariana® Quality Mark (QV) is granted only and exclusively to products (and not to manufacturing companies!) by virtue of compliance with the following criteria:
- the food must be produced transparently by listing all the ingredients to the control organization and immediately communicating any changes
- the production plants must be open to inspections by the control organization by the Independent Certification Body CSQA
- the criteria must comply with the rules established by the specification issued byAVI (Italian Vegetarian Association)and guaranteed by the independent certification body CSQA
- eggs from battery farms are prohibited
- products obtained with Genetically Modified ingredients will not be able to obtain the brand.

The brand grant has a duration of three years, starting from the day of subscription, and will be renewable for a period of equal duration.

The second brand recognized and used by the vegetarian and vegan movement around the world was born with the A.V.I. (Italian Vegetarian Association) in the 1970s and then spread internationally. It's about the brandA.V.I. LABEL VEG.

The conformity of the products is defined according to a specification issued by the authoritative European Vegetarian Association (EVU) after a work in concert with numerous Veg associations of European countries.

The brand A.V.I. LABEL VEGit is also available in two versions dedicated to vegetarian and vegan diets (no ingredients of animal origin: no meat, no fish, no milk, no eggs, no honey or any of their derivatives), here they are:

To obtain this mark the products must guarantee the compliance with these criteria:

- the food must be produced transparently by listing all the ingredients to the control organization and immediately communicating any changes
- the production plants must be open to inspections by the control organization
- the criteria must comply with the rules established by the specification issued byEuropean Vegetarian Association (AVE)
- eggs from battery farms are prohibited
- products obtained with Genetically Modified ingredients will not be able to obtain the brand.

Also in this case, the license to use the trademark is granted only and exclusively to products and not to manufacturing companies. The duration of the trademark concession is three years.

The logos Vegetariana® Quality Mark (QV)is A.V.I. LABEL VEGthey can coexist with each other but CANNOT be combined with other logos of vegetarian or vegan certifications.
