The thickness of the radiant panels: the radiant floor panels, with all the accessory components, occupy a certain thickness which generally amounts to about 15 cm. The thicknessobserved in the plants ofradiant panel heating for floors, can be summarized with reference to the most common standards in the field of construction.

Thickness of the radiant panels, the components

  • Space for plumbing and electrical piping
It is the hydraulic and electrical pipes that occupy most of thethicknessof a floor heating system. The space to be allocated to the plumbing and electrical pipes amounts to approximately 5-8 cm. Before laying the insulation for theradiant panels, the systems must be leveled with a sort of preliminary screed, preferably made with loose insulating material such as cork, perliti, expanded clay ... In this context, to gain space, a channel* placed at the same level asradiant systembut that passes along the walls.
  • Insulation and piping
The space to be allocated to the insulating layer and the pipes varies from 3 to 5.5 cm. Thisthicknessvaries according to how much insulation is laid under the pipe, the right amount of insulation must be laid to avoid dispersion downwards.
  • Mat
The screed can use from 3 to 4.5 cm. The screeds that take up lessthicknessare those made with the quick-drying self-leveling system.
  • Finish
The finish is given by the actual flooring and therefore depends on thefloor thickness: tiles, parquet, terracotta… generally this value varies from 0.8 to 3 cm.

Thickness of the radiant panels, report

Generalizing and following the standards of a typical situation, it thickness of the radiant panelscomplete with system and floor, amounts to a total of 15 cm.

*To reduce itthickness of the underfloor heating systemit is possible to pass the water and electrical pipes in a side channel on the wall, but in this case the collateral costs of water and electricity systems increase. With the lateral canal lothicknessit decreases reaching about 8/10 cm.

Who is on the hunt forthicknesseslower, must evaluate the lowered dry systems thanks to which it is possible to reach 3-5 cm. With dry-lowered systems, a structure is installed that incorporates the entire system in a small thickness. This solution is designed for application on existing floors but is not without "side effects": With the dry lowered system, it will be necessary to ensure that the insulation placed under the pipe is sufficient to meet the heat loss requirements.
