The first applications of thetransparent photovoltaicfor the realization ofwindowsperfectly insulated and with good efficiency: thephotovoltaic windowsthey are able to generate electricity less efficiently than the classicphotovoltaicbut they are easier to install and lower costs: such an investment, according to experts, is recovered within five years.
When it comes totransparent photovoltaic we refer to different technologies: transparent photovoltaic in silicon gel, transparent photovoltaic organic based e transparent photovoltaic based on graphene.
The organic based solar panel it is exploited by the companyNew Energy technologies Inc.A point in favor of the technology oftransparent photovoltaicorganic-based is that the constituents do not require expensive or energy-intensive production processes: the small solar cells ofphotovoltaic windowsthey are not produced at high temperatures. They are calledSolarWindowsand they arewindowsthat by exploiting thetransparent photovoltaicto produce energy. They integrate an ultra-thin organic solar panel capable of optically absorbing light photons so as to generate electricity and guaranteetransparency.
Othersphotovoltaic windowsare can be made with further ease. A thin film can be applied to the surface of the single window or inserted into the cavity of a glass wall. This is made possible thanks to the use of the special gel transparent containing amorphous silicon. Depending on the choice of application, different results are obtained: using the gel with amorphous silicon on the glass surface, there is an electrical production of up to 100 watts per square meter. By inserting it into the cavity of the single glass, the production is almost triple, or 300 watts per m2.
Researchers are now studying possible applications where thetransparent photovoltaicit could be based on graphene, a harder material than diamond, totally transparent and that it could conduct electricity with a thickness comparable to that of an atom!
The only disadvantage of photovoltaic windows is that a traditional solar system can be oriented and tilted according to solar radiation, while it is not always possible to tilt the windows. These fixtures are usually positioned at 90 degrees vertically and for this reason the electricity production is reduced.
