How to separate waste, general rules

Sorting waste it means preserving the environment in which we live; huge amounts of waste can affect our planet in an increasingly negative way if we do not intervene in the right way. In this regard, here how to separate waste in a diligent and responsible manner.

How to separate waste, containers
Different containers are needed to separate waste: for organic waste, plastic, glass, aluminum and paper and dry non-recyclable waste. They fall into the category of waste that we produce daily. You will then need containers for expired medicines and dead batteries.
To avoid getting confused, you can attach labels with a general list of materials.

How to separate waste, general rules
As for glass and plastic, do not forget to rinse the materials and carefully remove any caps and labels. Pay attention to the casings that often also hide plastic linings, in this case you will have to manually divide the parts. When this is not possible, the waste can be thrown into the non-recyclable dry as in the case of tetrapak containers, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc.
All vegetable residues, food leftovers and biodegradable napkins must be disposed of in the organic waste container.
Medicines and dead batteries must be accumulated in canvas bags and then periodically thrown into specific bins that are easily found in large supermarkets or pharmacies.

How to separate waste, bulky items
Bulky items must be brought personally to the collection center. In some cities it is possible that there are special days in which the trucks used to stop in a certain area to facilitate the task for those who do not have the means to transport certain objects.

How to separate waste, useful tips
In addition to properly sorting waste, you can do even more: learn how to reduce the amount of waste you produce

  • When shopping, choose loose fruit and vegetables and avoid buying those in plastic packaging
  • Reduce the consumption of bottled mineral water by drinking tap water. To eliminate any unpleasant aftertaste you can use a filter jug
  • Avoid products that cannot be recycled as much as possible: disposable razors, plates, glasses and plastic cutlery
  • Buy ecological detergents on tap that are less harmful to both the environment and your health: they do not contain toxic ingredients and allow you to reuse the bottle without throwing it away every time
  • Use a composter to turn your organic waste and garden scraps into compost, which is a great fertilizer.
