Changing the boiler: which technology to choose?

The reason that leads to the decision of change boiler at home can only be one: the previous system broke or is no longer reliable because it is too old.

It is difficult for anyone to decide to spend a large amount for the operation of boiler replacement with a more efficient one if the old one still works well, even if it is a little inexpensive, more likely to keep it and wait for its 'natural death' to proceed with the replacement.

Therefore change boiler it is almost always a question of forced replacement, and if one is forced to change it is logical to do it for the better. So far everyone agrees I guess, but how choose the boiler new? It is not so much about choosing the model, this is a decision that comes later, but rather the upstream technology.

In reality it is not a real choice because the compulsory condensing boiler has been in force throughout the national territory since September 2015, to the point that the old boilers are already out of production. The condensing boiler is always mandatory in case of replacement, except for exceptions motivated by the inadequacy of the flue. In this case, but only in this case, a traditional open chamber boiler can be installed, the only one that manufacturers can still market.

The performance of condensing boilers is higher if the fluid return temperatures are low, thus allowing the condensation principle to be exploited to the full. In optimal cases, the energy savings that can be obtained with a condensing boiler is 15-20 percent compared to a traditional system.

There are advantages and also disadvantages of condensing boilers, but among the first is the fact that this technology is particularly well coupled with low temperature heating systems, such as radiant floor or wall panels. This aspect is to be taken into consideration at the time of change boiler.

In reality, condensing boilers can offer interesting performances even with traditional radiator systems, as long as the circuit is adequate to guarantee a lower return temperature than the conventional value normally used for radiator systems.

Even if you install a condensing boiler, don't fool yourself that you can do without the boiler. Remember that condensing technology offers excellent performance only if it is kept in perfect efficiency. At the time of purchase, obviously from a certified dealer, carefully evaluate the maintenance program of the condensing boiler.

For change a boiler traditional type, saving on consumption with better performance, you can also consider a heat pump, electric or gas. The installation costs will certainly be higher, but the performances of all respect.

There are advantages and disadvantages of the heat pump that I can make this technology more or less convenient depending on the case. The main aspect to consider concerns the fact that the heat pump is all the more convenient the more the building's primary energy requirement is reduced upstream, for example with a good thermal coat.
